A Personal Travel Photographer and Videographer? Why?

You’re ready to go on the dream vacation that you’ve been dreaming about. It has always been your family’s dream to fly to Orlando and enjoy Disney World and Universal Studios. This is going to be one of the best vacations of your lives and so you make sure to bring your camera to capture the memories. However, these are some of the most common mistakes that people make when trying to capture the memories that will last a life time.

10 Photo & Video Mistakes People Make During Their Vacation

10. Not buying enough batteries

Seeing the dreaded blinking light right before their child’s turn to take a picture with Mickey Mouse is a parent’s worst nightmare. Camera batteries last 2-3 hours at most and this means that you need to bring at least 5 for the day so you don’t need to sit in the corner just to charge your camera or phone. Remember to charge all of your batteries and keep them in a safe place in your camera bag.

9. Not bringing a tripod

Why wouldn’t you want everyone in the picture? Also, everyone hates the awkward “hi! can you take a picture of us?” and in the end, you realize that the picture is blurry and no one has a head. Worse is when you have to teach the person how to use the camera. “this button please…”

8. Not taking the time to learn how to use their DSLR

These days everyone has a DSLR that can take beautiful pictures. However, the majority of people don’t know how to use anything other than the Auto Feature. This definitely makes life easier since you don’t have to think about anything but that same quality can be taken on your iPhone. Take a few hours to just learn the basics online and you’ll be able to get better pictures and videos from your DSLR.

7. Not transferring files and running out of space

Just like running out of batteries, running out of space on your memory is just as annoying. Often times we’re forced to look through our other pictures and videos to choose which ones to delete. Be sure to grab several 16gb SD cards for your DSLR and clear out your iPhone so you have enough memory for the whole day.

6. Not taking the time to take good pictures and videos

Let’s be honest, we rarely think about taking good pictures and videos. Unfortunately, the majority of vacation pictures never make it out of the computer because they were too blurry, shaky, bright, dark, and the list goes on. Take your time when taking pictures and make sure to focus on capturing those memories. These moments only happen once in a lifetime and so you need to do everything you can to not miss them.

5. Forgetting to bring a hard drive for storage and backups

Backup. Backup. and then have a backup for your backup. These memories are priceless and you simply cannot let a faulty hard drive ruin everything. After your memory card is full, make sure to transfer them to at least two hard drives to ensure that even if one hard drive fails, you have a backup. Also, make sure you have enough time to transfer these files because transferring 16 gbs can take up to 45 minutes depending on your SD card and computer.

4. Not including everyone in the pictures and videos

This is the result of not bringing a tripod or being able to find anyone to take your pictures. However, this is more prevalent to the videos because you will never ask a stranger to take a video of your family. So 100% of the time, someone is missing in your vacation videos.

3. Shaky and/or blurry pictures and videos

These are the pictures and videos that you will be showing your children and grandchildren in the future so it's sad when all you have all blurry and shaky videos. Unfortunately, most people tend to overlook just how unbearable it is to watch videos that are out of focus and it never really captures just how fun that vacation was.

2. They press “format” without knowing what it does

Formatting your memory card means everything will be deleted! So before you press that, think twice and make sure to transfer all of your pictures and videos to a hard drive.

1. Not taking enough pictures and videos!

This one is arguably the one thing that everyone does on their vacation. We all look back and think "I wish we got a picture of ____"

Having a personal travel videographer and photographer might seem like a luxury that's not really needed. However, after you think about how stressful it is to simply capture those special moments, you'll realize that having a travel videographer or photographer allows your family to just sit back and enjoy the vacation.
